Hello, fellow modders!

Here's the moment, you've all been waiting for. Mod Jam 2021 #2 is officially announced!. There will be no registration on this one, as this is free entry competition (and mostly everyone signed on via discord, so yeah).

Since the summer is over, autumn blues are manifesting, it's time to reminisce the good, warm and fun times during summer. But to keep the ugly cold away, I'm taking DonutTeam Community Modders on a Tropical Getaway!
So, as I mentioned, the theme is Tropical Getaway. I am revisiting Colou's idea of one mission mod, so this competition will be exactly that.

Criteria:
  • The mod MUST include 1 mission
  • The mod MUST include a new tropical map OR a tropical revamp of OG maps (just replace trees with palms and something else maybe, make it tropical)
  • The mod MUST include a new character costume and/or vehicle (bonus points will be given for any additional vehicles/characters)
No special must-use criteria this time, no must-use assets either.

As previously, bonus points will be awarded for any additional assets (characters, vehicles, props, roads and such and so on, you know the drill).

Prizes:
  • 1st Place - 10€ Steam gift card;
  • 2nd Place - 5€ Steam gift card;
  • 3rd and below - well... a feeling of accomplishment, satisfaction, a badge and.... literally nothing material, sorry. :D

Duration: the time for development for this contest will be given 2 WHOLE WEEKS. So, the entries must be submitted BEFORE September 22nd.

I hope I mentioned everything. Any questions can be left in the comment section or contacting me on DTcord or my personal discord MorganVain#7480.

RESULTS:
Spoiler
So... this is the moment we all been waiting for. It's time to announce the winners!

Here it goes:
  • 1st Place - Jay with Operation: Think of the Children. I really liked the reference to the show, did not expect the secret tunnel and a secret area in general. The map is very well made, there's some traffic, big nice beach. Most points are for the map, but some weird crash occured before and doing M2 (the one with Krusty). Also, the added collectibles were a really nice touch. Good job!
  • 2nd Place - Tay with Paradise Cletus. The map is also amazing, getting high Florida vibes, and love the animated water. However one point of the map resulted in massive frame drop, but I'll let it slip. The Cletus, Apu and generic character costumes are nice, added traffic, LOVED the jetski race. This came very very close to being in first place, but some things weighted it to second. Amazing job whatsoever.
  • 3rd Place - Maz with Dog Days. The map is small and simple, but with some nice details, I really loved the added traffic for background scenery. The race was nice, minor AI fails. The new vehicles were really nice (would've removed the coffin from the hearse tho). The mod is very nice and was fun to play, despite the AI f*****.
  • 4th Place - Weasel with Archipelago. A big potential for higher place was ruined by the low poly map. the map itself is really nice, quite fun to drive through (despite the volcano climb, which I kept flying off), but the low poly textures set me off, didn't feel as fun, didn't feel tropical nor SHAR-ish. Comparing to Maggie's Hot Dog dream, I honestly expected more and did not quite enjoy the Archipelago as much. Random FNAF reference was quite out of place.
  • 5th Place - Mochapoke with Homr in Sandy Chores. The mod was sorta fun, I enjoyed the message of our poluted beaches and oceans, so I mostly enjoyed the mod due to that. But yeah, minor map changes were cool, the mission might've use maybe more functions. Overall, this was a very nice mod, I'm very glad to see you progress in modding, keep up the good work!
So this is it. Congratulations to Jay and Tay, hope to see your mods progress into full campaign mods. I'll contact you for your prizes.

Best of luck to all of you, have fun and most importantly...
Happy modding!
-Morgan
Very cool. I'll keep this pinned to the top of the forum for the duration of the Mod Jam for visibility. :)

yessss! work hard fellas, cant wait to see the contestants
Now that we've reached the deadline, allow me to rank the submissions based on my experience.

1. Operation Think of the Children
2. Paradise Cletus
3. Archipelago
4. Dog Days
5. Homr in sandy chores

Frankly, I have problems with all five submissions ranging from nitpicks to constant irritation, but I guess I'll let them slide given the time frame to work on these mods. #1 and #2 came really close to each other because of such problems. Same with #3 and #4.

I partially agree with you. OTOTC and PC did come very close in the final stretch to each other. However I'm still going to officially announce the winners on Friday the 24th of September 2021. Stay tuned.
Congratulations to winners! Really enjoyed playing through mod jam submissions (as well as making my own one) and results are pretty much the same as I predicted after playing the mods.
but
"ruined by low poly map" sounded pretty rude :(
And I really didn't expect other "non shar-ish, not fun" comments either. Did not expect this from trying to make a unique original map without recycling 20yr old SHAR assets.
I'm not saying I disagree with the final judgment, but I wish you had not have tried to put me down like that. I only entered the contest because me and my friends had fun making the mod, not to compete for prize and be compared to my previous mod.

I'm sorry, for sounding rude, did not mean to do that, but just pointed out what placed you in 4th. The map itself is amazing, but as I mentioned, the textures were not very pleasing. And I did ask some people from within and outside the DonutTeam Community to play through the mods, and most opinions said the same, comparing to other submissions. But as long as you had fun, I think that's the important part.
Ey-ey I'd like to leave a little bit of a message to my experience on this event!

The experience itself:
This was a nice event/contest to participate in. I'm glad to be part of it & while I did not expect to get in the 3rd place, I'm super glad I did! For each submission I have to say they all were unique in their own ways, it was quite interesting to see what every of the other participants thought of when they heard the word "tropical" and how different could many mods be released on this very theme!
I'm sure everyone did their best or at least some good amount of effort, just enough to have both fun & something to work on!
I hope this event has brought some of us closer, in terms of discussing about the mods, checking each-other's mods, etc.
I'm thankful to the people that helped me with my mod (Mochapoke, Tay, TheButterApple24 & my brother), it wouldn't've been possible (or at least that awesome) without their help with both the map as well as few suggestions.

About my mod
Yeah the AI was dumb as heck, most probably because of the road nodes around that area, despite that, I'm glad you liked it, funny enough the main car took quite a lot of time to be made, surprisingly, mainly because of a lot of UV problems.
I'm glad you enjoyed my mod & the simple map, I had actually planned more stuff for it, but I decided to only stick it to that island, as the rest would've taken me more to make. Maybe in the future I'll make a mod in continuation to this one & add a little bit of a lore to it.

Final thoughts
I've loved each & every of the mods and of course, congratulations to the winners!
I'm looking forward to more of these events & I'm really hoping everyone else had as much fun as I did while making my mod!
