Moe's and Snake's cars beta wheels

Please login to contribute to the conversation.
Hello, I am new here, and I am trying to recreate beta car wheels on the phonebooth, like Lisa's malibu stacy *which on I have already changed the new wheel texture to old wheel texture*.
But I need help on Moe's and Snake's car. For Moes sedan there are no textures of the wheels on the game files, I have checked. All I have found there are the interior textures, where there is the beta wheel for some reason, and for Snake's car there is no beta wheel texture at all, so can someone help me?
Hey there, filipradovic627! I apologize for the late reply to your thread - I had previously saw this prior to going to bed and meant to respond to it sooner. Welcome to the forums!

I took a quick peak at what you were talking about. I assume you're referring to the Phonebooth preview images of both Moe's Sedan and Snake's 'Lil Bandit? I noticed differences with the preview's tires and the in-game model. I am unsure if there's anything else available that suggests the tire texture was changed earlier than when those Phonebooth preview snapshots were taken that you might be referring to.

Regarding Moe's tires, you are indeed correct. Moe's Sedan's interior texture does have an unused wheel design that the Phonebooth preview snapshot properly uses. The game actually has two copies of this texture. The smaller version is the one that's actually used while the larger one goes unused (it's lacking a couple of things and the game loads the first texture in the P3D file structure anyways).

There are a couple of ways to give Moe's Sedan the 'mismatched tire' look it has in the Phonebooth preview snapshot. The easiest (but not exactly cleanest) solution that I can think of would be to just swipe a separate wheel texture/shader/mesh from a pre-existing vehicle. Since the wheel textures are separate from the rest of the car, they're a lot easier to individually edit. You can just right click, choose 'Copy > This', and then paste all 3 things into the Moe Sedan P3D. You could then export the texture from the unused larger interior of Moe's Sedan, export the individual wheel texture you copied from another car, and edit the unused wheel onto the individual wheel texture. Then just re-import and modify the car's composite drawable accordingly. The second solution would be to use Blender to modify the texture mapping which would be significantly cleaner, but I'm unsure if you have familiarity with that program.

Snake's 'Lil Bandit is thankfully a lot easier to figure out. I took a look around to see if there were any cars that had a similar tire shape to that Phonebooth preview. Assuming I'm looking at it correctly, it actually seems as if the Phonebooth preview snapshot of that car is using the Canyonero's Wheel Texture (marge_v.p3d)? It has an incredibly similar rim pattern and they roughly look the same when viewed at a similar angle. I think the texture might have been modified a bit later into development to change the shading and add bolts, but some of the differences might be a result of the image compression. You can just import the tire design from marge_v and get something close to what the Phonebooth preview displays.

I hope that answers your question. Are you looking to create some sort of prototype vehicle pack?

(I also really quickly added a flair to this particular post and moved it into a forum subsection that I think is slightly more appropriate.)

Hey thanks Kenny I have retextured Moe's sedan, and I will try that with lil Bandit to see if it fits

Edit:

Spoiler: Image Comparisons:

Kinda different, dont you think?

Oh huh! That is considerably different. Hmm. My bad!

I went ahead and tried combing through a couple of more P3Ds from the final game to see if the earlier texture might exist elsewhere (some other cars I forgot to check, the regional P3Ds, Car Shop Preview models, and Bonus Game maps). Unfortunately, I can't seem to find this texture at all and it looks like it got the boot. If I'm wrong however, please let me know.

My only other suggestion would perhaps be to comb through some of the game's prototypes to see if it might have still been there prior to being removed? Sadly I'm not familiar with the contents of all of them and we prefer not to directly link to them, but there's a chance the texture might be somewhere in there. If that doesn't work, I think your second best bet would be to attempt to re-create the texture based on these screenshots. The tire texture used for bart_v and marge_v seem to have a very similar triangular shape and something close to what's depicted here might be possible to create.

I am also glad to hear you got the re-texture for Moe's Sedan to work. Were you using Valera's P3D or were you able to find a solution that worked using your own moe_v P3D file?
For Moe's one I used Valera's re textures, but the wheels were much more high quality there, so I have checked the game files for the mod, and noticed that he used the larger texture and got kremlin's wheel texture on it, I wanted bad quality wheels because I like it that way, and I got that to work, I have used the smaller texture. Then I have added the model to the basic game and got what I needed, now I have some trouble with Snake's car, but I think I will figure it out, thanks for the help Kenny!

But I don't know how to get a prototype, it is hard to get.

Alright. I have a beta prototype of ps2 July 10 2003, but I don't know how to search files because they are rcf files.
